Nestled in the serene hills of Los Gatos less than 10 minutes from town, lies an exclusive Mediterranean resort style estate. This spectacular property is a distinctive exhibition of treasured materials and master craftsmanship of European quality and standard.

The custom gourmet kitchen features top of the line cabinetry, farmhouse sink, professional appliances and abundant storage for the discriminating chef. A black enameled and copper La Cornue stove, a fireplace with built-in pizza oven, separate Thermador refrigerator, freezer and wine storage unit, and Meile dishwasher are all built into the custom cabinetry. Beautifully crafted slab countertops from Brazil finish off the gourmet kitchen. An outdoor atrium just off the kitchen invites you enjoy the city views, take a glass of wine and relax by the gas fireplace, rocked in by natural quarried stone and redwood accents.

The master suite features an arched ceiling with stained beams and a complete walk-in master closet. This closet has custom built his/hers cabinetry and an additional closet in the master hall that provides ample storage for coats, hand bags and your personal luggage. The master bath has a number of contemporary features laid into a classic setting. Underneath the Belgian limestone floors lies a radiant heat system. The stand-alone tub is solid cast iron from Kohler. The large shower offers steam bath, body sprayers, rain flower, hand held shower and an exquisite mosaic from Italy. The two separate sink vanities are custom-built cabinetry and are topped with marble slabs. The wainscoting is sold stone and is inlaid with a glass mosaic from Susan Jablon. The chandelier and ceiling rope lighting accent more glass mosaics from Susan Jablon.

The grounds of the home were professionally designed by a locally renowned landscape architect. The estate’s landscape is an award-winning sight and contains many rare and exotic plants. Featuring palms, cycads and flowers from around the globe, the rear gardens include 2 specimens of an endangered species of cycad imported from Mozambique through Santa Barbara. Usually found in Paris and only seen within 50 mines of the Mozambique coastline, these are a rarity anywhere in the United States.

The swimming pool and spa area features a jetted 10-12 person spa which overflows into a stream/waterfall where it then flows across river rocks, under a small rock bridge and into the pool below. Waterfalls cascade alongside the salt water pool, with approximately 10 separate valves in all. The pool has been completely rebuilt with a beach/wade-in entry, shamu shelf and pebble tech coating.

The gourmet outdoor kitchen has its own propane/wood fire pit, perfect for roasting marshmallows and evening gatherings. Also included are a built in 36” DCS grill, a ceramic charcoal smoker/grill (Green Egg), sink, refrigerator with 2 sections and stainless steel DCS cabinets. The kitchen is rocked in and capped with Italian marble from Umbria.

Each patio has something unique to offer: the upper patio has a custom built Andalusian fountain in a Moorish tradition with hand painted Spanish tile featuring turquoise, ochre and oxblood accents. It is capped with an impressively thick travertine slab. Other exterior features include a large sport court with NBA regulation basketball hoop, 3 lawns, custom iron work fences and gates, and a boulder seating area to view the city lights.

Susan Jablon Mosaics testimonial

Susan Jablon Mosaics

I must give credit where credit is due. Famed interior designer, Candace Olsen, showcased a kitchen renovation on an episode of her HGTV show, Divine Design. I've watched hundreds of kitchen makeover shows in my lifetime. But something about this episode caught my eye. Candace pointed to a scrumptious, sumptuous, shimmery, watery mosaic backsplash made with eye-catching, light-reflecting glass tiles. Gorgeous!

Even after the episode ended, I couldn't stop thinking about the tile. I found a website stocked with some of the prettiest tile blends I've ever seen. Susan Jablon Mosaics (www.susanjablonmosaics.com) has created an entire lifestyle centered around tiny one-inch squares of colored glass.

I knew that I wasn't going to attempt any major tiling project. I actually just wanted to create some type of mosaic wall art to hang in my kitchen. Luckily for me, the sample sheets that she offers are the perfect size to use for a smaller craft project. Even more delightful, is the Custom Blend Tile Designer program that is featured on the website. This program gives you an opportunity to create and edit different blends of tiles. You can preview the tile blends with different grout and background colors.

Susan Jablon's website offers more than just an infinite supply of tiles. There are pictures for inspiration, instructions for installation, and tips for color selections. The customer service is superb - my sample tile order was treated as importantly as if I were purchasing enough square footage for a pool. There are plenty of links to find answers to just about any question relating to tile.

Overall, this is an exciting site for anyone who is at all creatively inclined.

Susan Jablon on eHOW

Harmony With Clear GlassAccording to Sheffield School of Interior Design, "a successful room exhibits a sense of harmony." A shower decorated in clear glass tile can offer all of the advantages of the patterned or mosaic glass-tiled shower with none of the fuss. Choose clear glass tile if you want to emphasize the effects of natural or artificial light in your shower. Susan Jablon Mosaics notes that "translucent glass tiles shine and glow when exposed to light, both reflecting and amplifying it, creating warmth and vibrance wherever they are installed." With clear glass in a heavily-cut design, the shower, shower window and shower surrounds produce a sense of light-filled harmony.

Kitchen has been finished for a few months so it’s my turn to share here. I really appreciate everyone’s help here in making this a reality, especially the early discussion on whether or not an island could fit (it does) and figuring out where to put the refrigerator. And many thanks to Mindimoo for all her advice!

We lived in the Cape Cod style house for almost five years before undergoing a two story addition off the back, which included a new dining area, mudroom, and family room downstairs and a new master bedroom and bath and another bedroom upstairs. We also reconfigured existing space, including the kitchen. When the house was built in the 1950s, the dining area was its own room off the kitchen. The previous owner took down the wall separating the rooms in the 90s, creating a peninsula between the work area and the dining area. In this remodel, we took out the peninsula entirely, making the whole kitchen a work area and moving the dining area into its own space in the addition. So we needed to redo the kitchen in order to make the previous dining area usable, but we couldn’t sink a lot of our budget into this portion of the project. Thanks to everyone here, we attempted to make smart choices for long term results. Our look is "contemporary cottage." Hope you enjoy looking!
